Being a URI 101 mentor has been one of the best experiences I have had at URI so far. I loved having a class of freshman to give advice to and share my challenges with. I have learned how to be a better leader and to communicate with people more effectively. Talking one on one with my students really helped me get to know a group of eighteen or so freshman. This experience helped me to become a better student as well because I wanted my students to look up to me in a sense. I wanted them to say to themselves that they too could become mentors next year and I believe that some of them will. I hope to be chosen again for a 101 mentor because I cannot wait to start with a new class and implement new ideas.
