Goal Statement: To teach my students how to utilize the HELIN Catalog through URI’s library.

Activities/Resources: Have students activate their library cards and take the time while we meet at the library for class for them to have it done.

Have them write down books they need from the library for their classes.

Go through step by step how to access books online through the URI library.

Evidence: I will include pictures of students at the library getting their cards activated. Also, I will include a step by step power point presentation on how to use the catalog and the worksheet I had them fill out when searching for books they needed.

The following evidence is a picture of my students at the library activating their URI ID's to act as their library cards for online use. I also included a power point presentation I gave to my students on how to search for a book through the catalog. In order for this to be beneficial for them I had some of the students fill out a sheet I had made to make their search a little bit easier. Not every class that they are in now requires them to obtain a book from the library, so I used one of my classes as an example for the in class discussion.

This assignment was important to my URI 101 class because I wanted my students to learn something that they could use through out their four years here at URI. Maybe not necessarily in their business classes, but in their general education courses they may be required to obtain a book from the library or use an online catalog.

The purpose of this presentation was to teach my students how to access their library card and use the online HELIN catalog. I wanted them to learn that the library is not only used to study during finals, but can also be used as a resource for writing papers and such. Even if they are not taking WRT 104, which is the class I learned how to use the catalog in, I wanted them to have the skill and hopefully pass it on to their peers.

Through this presentation I learned just how valuable a source the library is. From the feedback I received from students, I discovered that other classes had not really gone over this topic and that what we did in class was very helpful. They also discussed how the handout with questions I had given them helped to prepare them for projects or papers due later on in the semester. I achieved exactly what I wanted to achieve with this presentation and our students benefited from it.

I included this evidence to show when our students had activated their library cards and how I helped them to learn how to use the HELIN catalog.
