Goal Statement: To create and present a lesson on different learning styles and study strategies and finding out how the students do either currently.

Activities/Resources: Have students take and pass in a learning style quiz.

Create a Power Point Presentation on different learning styles and different study strategies.

Pass out a question about how students in my class currently study for their exams.

Evidence: I will include both Power Points, quiz the students take and the questionnaire on their learning style.

The following evidence is two Power Point presentations I helped to create on different learning styles and different study strategies. I helped to create this presentation with two other class members of CSV and I wanted to use it for my class. Also included is a quiz I had my students take on their different learning styles. The quiz was online and so I had them take it online.

This activity and presentation were important for my URI 101 class because when I entered college I did not really know my personal learning styles and I wanted my students to know right away. A lot of students were in the same boat I was when first entering college and this is why it was important to have my freshman students figure out what works best for them. Not only did I want them to know how exactly they learn the best, but also how they study the best.

The purpose of the Power Point presentation was to just inform my students about the different learning styles there are. I allotted the majority of a class period to go over this topic because I believed that it was how we should start the year and it was very important. I presented the slides at first more like a lecture until the 6th slide, where I then presented the quiz for them to take on their laptops. All of our students took the quiz and some were surprised by the outcomes and others already knew the outcome of their learning style. After the power point I had the students take a short questionnaire I had created. Once they took the quiz, I asked that some students share their responses with the class and that seemed to spark more conversation about different study tips. I think our students took a lot from this activity and learned from each other.

Through this activity I learned that a lot of our students already knew their study habits and were comfortable with them. At the end of the lesson I realized even more just how beneficial it was to them and to my co-mentor and I. I was happy to find out at the end of the semester during our review that our students actually benefited from taking the online quiz and sharing study habits. I had our students keep the studying questionnaire until our last class and I asked them to refer back to it and see if anything had changed. A lot of our students had not changed their habits since they were still working positively. Other students who did not have very positive habits, for the most part, had changed their habits completely and were studying quite similarly to their peers. I hope that our students will keep these habits throughout their life.

I included this evidence  to show the questions that were asked, the presentation I used, and the quiz our students took online. From this presentation I learned just how well some of our students were succeeding in college and how some were not.

This is the quiz I used for my class to take: http://www.edutopia.org/multiple-intelligences-learning-styles-quiz

The quiz generated what type of learner the students were electronically.
